The pieces I create are tied to the ephemeral nature of life. Whether that be a moment or a memory I will try to hold on to or a piece that will never be the same even if it reoccurs. Flowers are a great example of this principle as flowers bloom yearly but they first have to die off. A lot of flowering plants have to completely die off in the winter and a new plant has to sprout in its place. When a new flower comes in it will look similar, but it will never be the same one.
I start off all my pieces with photography as I am trying to document what I see and show others what I am seeing. It is also a way to capture memories in great detail and avoid the fuzziness that memories get as we get further away from them. Photography is a way for me to hold onto the good parts of the past and let go of the bad. From there the pieces that hold more emotional value I take to illustrator or procreate and photoshop and create digital renderings of the photos. It adds an effect that is very interesting to me and makes my eyes focus more on the details and lack of details that the image has. The images I want to keep as documentation of their existence, like flowers, I try to keep the photos as close to the original as possible but with some minor touch ups if needed.
I do this so I can remember living things that most people will just brush by or just give a glance. The amount of nature and plants people just overlook as we move around our lives is a large amount. The night sky is slowly disappearing as we add more to our societies. The more light pollution we add the less stars we see. Encapsulating both emotional memories and documenting what we have is my motivating factor for my photography.
